The municipality of Antigua, located on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary archipelago, originally was supplied with water from wells. Over the years, tourism growth and produced from the 80s, conventional water resources available were insufficient to meet the needs of the new demand. The new demographic and economic conditions also demanded the need for sufficient drinking water and quality sanitation infrastructure enabling to guarantee balance and environmental protection in the area.

Thus in 2000, the Ayuntamiento de Antigua awarded through public tender to a private company specializing in advanced systems for water , engineering and tourism development, the establishment of the Empresa Mixta de Aguas de Antigua in order to implement the system of integrated water cycle in the town, being the specialist in the management of the water service Grupo CASSA .
